Oregon Licensing Questions

1) What if my renewal is late?

A renewal is late if everything required to renew the license is not received and/or postmarked by the license expiration date, or if the continuing education hours are completed after the expiration date.  Renewal fees double for late license renewals and all endorsements, appointments, employee/employer relationships must be reestablished with the appropriate form and fees.  There is no grace period.  You have one year from the expiration date to late renew the license; after which time you must file a new application, appointment, fees, prelicensing certificates and pass the qualifying examination.

2) How will I know when it's time to renew my license?

The license expiration date is shown on the front of the license.  The Department mails a renewal notice approximately 45-60 days before your license expires.

3) How do I know how many continuing education hours I will need to renew my license?

Oregon OAR #836-071-0215, specifies that for each two year renewal period occurring after issuance of an insurance producer license through the sixth year that an insurance producer holds an insurance producer license, the insurance producer must complete 44 hours of continuing education.  For each two year renewal period occurring after the sixth year that an insurance producer holds an insurance producer license, the insurance producer must complete 24 hours of continuing education.  All renewing insurance producers must complete at least 3 credit hours of continuing education on the subject of Oregon statutes and administrative rules, including recent changes; and at least 2 credit hours of continuing education on the subject of professional ethics for insurance producers.

We suggest you complete your required hours at least 60 days prior to the expiration date of your license to allow sufficient time to submit the necessary information and for the department to update your record.  If hours are completed at the end of your renewal term, the license renewal process may be delayed while your hours are processed.

Additional information regarding your continuing education requirements can be found on the Oregon Insurance Division website

General Site Questions

1) Why should I renew my CE credits online?

It's really a matter of convenience and a reduction in stress. Convenience means you can do the courses on your schedule, not somebody else's. Start when you want, work at your own pace, finish when you want...it's all up to you. Convenience also means working where you want....on your home computer, on your office computer, on your laptop at the beach...wherever you have access to a computer, it's that easy. Change from the traditional method of earning CE credits to on-line testing, providing you with a stress-free environment with which to earn your CE credits.

3) What happens when I've completed the course?

Upon completion of the final exam, your exam score will be instantly graded and presented to you. You will see a list of all the questions and whether your answer was correct or incorrect.  A passing grade of 70% or higher, means you have successfully completed the course, and will be able to print your Certificate of Completion.  If you do not achieve a passing score of 70% or higher, you will be given the option to retake the exam, at no additional cost.  You may retake any exam until successfully completed at no additional charge.
For California producers/agents, AES notifies the CA Department of Insurance of the course(s) you have successfully completed.  The CA Department of Insurance will then update your CE credit hours.
For Oregon producers/agents, you must print out the certificate of completion and mail or fax to the Insurance Division of the Oregon Department of Consumer & Business services.

9) Do I have to release my Social Security Number?

The California Department of Insurance requests disclosure of a student's social security number pursuant to Insurance Code Sections 1749, 1749.2, 1749.3, 1749.4, 1749.5, 1749.7, and California Code of Regulations, Title 10, Chapter 5, Section 2188.6(b)(1).  The Oregon Insurance Division requests SSN under OAR 836-071-0101 and 836-071-0112.  This information is requested so that the Department can properly identify and assign credit to the students who have completed prelicensing or continuing education courses.  While a student's disclosure of his or her social security number here is not mandatory, any failure to provide this information may delay or otherwise impede the Department in assigning credit for the completion of such courses to the appropriate students.
