California Licensing Questions
1) What if my renewal is late?
A renewal is late if it is post marked after the expiration date,
or if the continuing education hours are completed after
the expiration date. A 50% penalty fee is required to late renew
the license and all endorsements, appointments, employee/employer
relationships must be reestablished with the appropriate form and
fees. There is no grace period. You have one year from the
expiration date to late renew the license; after which time you
must file a new application, appointment, fees, prelicensing certificates
and pass the qualifying examination.

2) How will I know when it's time to
renew my license?
The license expiration date is shown on the front of the license.
The Department mails a renewal notice about ninety days before your
license expires. If, for any reason, you do not receive a renewal
notice, you may refer to to the back of your license for instructions
on renewing.
Back to Questions
3) How do I know how many continuing
education hours I will need to renew license?
New licensees must complete twenty-five hours (25) of continuing education hours per year for each of the first four years. After the first four years, the licensee will need to complete thirty-hours (30) of continuing education for every two-year license term. We suggest you
to complete your required hours at least 30 days prior to the expiration
date of your license to allow sufficient time for the Insurance Department to update
your record. If hours are completed at the end of your renewal term,
the license renewal process may be delayed while your hours are
processed. To check your continuing education hours, you may call
the California Department of Insurance 24-hour Interactive Voice
Response System at (800) 967-9331 to hear your hours and/or receive
a FAX of those hours, or visit their License Status Inquiry Webpage
HERE
for on-line license status information.
Additional information regarding continuing education
requirements if selling Long Term Care or Annuities, can be found on the CA
Dept of Insurance CE FAQ website.

of Insurance has received my continuing education hours and how
may hours of credit I have accumulated?

To check your continuing education hours, you may call the California
Department of Insurance 24-hour Interactive Voice Response System
at (800) 967-9331 to hear your hours and/or receive a FAX of those

5) After I complete my continuing education
hours, do I need to send the certificate to the Department of Insurance?
No, it is the provider's responsibility to submit the credits to
the Department of Insurance. DO NOT send your certificate, or copies
of the certificate, even if your renewal form indicates you are
deficient in hours. The certificate is for your records, the Department
of Insurance must enter the hours from the providers roster.

General Site Questions
1) Why
should I renew my CE credits online?
It's really a matter of convenience and a reduction in stress.
Convenience means you can do the courses on your schedule, not somebody
else's. Start when you want, work at your own pace, finish when
you want...it's all up to you. Convenience also means working where
you want....on your home computer, on your office computer, on your
laptop at the beach...wherever you have access to a computer, it's
that easy. Change from the traditional method of earning CE credits
to on-line testing, providing you with a stress-free environment
with which to earn your CE credits.

2) Are the courses
approved for credit?

by the California Department of Insurance and the Insurance Division
of the Oregon Department of Consumer & Business Services. Our
California provider number is 43280. Our Oregon provider number is
6289.

3) What
happens when I've completed the course?
Upon completion of the final exam, your exam score will be
instantly graded and presented to you. You will see a list of all
the questions and whether your answer was correct or incorrect. A
passing grade of 70% or higher, means you have successfully
completed the course, and will be able to print your Certificate of
Completion. If you do not achieve a passing score of 70% or higher,
you will be given the option to retake the exam, at no additional
cost. You may retake any exam until successfully completed at no
additional charge.
For California producers/agents, AES notifies the CA Department of
Insurance of the course(s) you have successfully completed. The CA
Department of Insurance will then update your CE credit hours.
For Oregon producers/agents, you must print out the certificate of
completion and mail or fax to the Insurance Division of the Oregon
Department of Consumer & Business services.

9) Do I have to release my Social Security

The California Department of Insurance requests disclosure of a
student's social security number pursuant to Insurance Code Sections
1749, 1749.2, 1749.3, 1749.4, 1749.5, 1749.7, and California Code of
Regulations, Title 10, Chapter 5, Section 2188.6(b)(1). The Oregon
Insurance Division requests SSN under OAR 836-071-0101 and

can properly identify and assign credit to the students who have
completed prelicensing or continuing education courses. While a

not mandatory, any failure to provide this information may delay or
otherwise impede the Department in assigning credit for the
